Climate resilience and Adaptation Programs
As a country on the frontlines of climate change, Bangladesh faces recurring natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, and landslides, which devastate communities, disrupt livelihoods, and claim lives. The Shirin and Sajmila International Foundation (SSIF) has been at the forefront of climate resilience efforts, providing immediate disaster relief while fostering long-term adaptation and preparedness through education and community engagement.
During the recent devastating floods in August 202, collaboration with district officials, the Bangladesh Defense Forces, and local stakeholders, SSIF has carried out rescue operations, rehabilitation efforts, and climate education programs aimed at reducing vulnerabilities and empowering communities. From turning schools into shelters to running mobile health teams and delivering lifesaving materials, we have touched countless lives, building hope in the face of adversity.
Rescue and Relief Operations

Climate Resilience Education
-
Workshops on Climate Adaptation:
SSIF organized 20 climate education workshops across rural and disaster-prone areas, training over 5,000 students and 1,000 community leaders in:-
Disaster preparedness (e.g., creating raised platforms and emergency plans).
-
Sustainable practices, such as water conservation and adaptive farming techniques.
-
Early warning systems and evacuation protocols.
-
-
These workshops emphasized practical, locally relevant skills, ensuring communities are better prepared for future disasters.

Stories of Change

Raisa, Age 25 – An Autistic Woman Finding Hope
Diagnosed with autism at an early age, Raisa relied on a close-knit support system in her rural village. When severe floods devastated the area, Raisa and her family found themselves stranded without access to critical medications or a safe shelter. Through our flood relief program, emergency volunteers located Raisa’s family, and rescued them to a nearby school-turned-shelter, and ensured she received specialized attention and her needed medication. The inclusive atmosphere fostered by trained volunteers allowed Raisa to adapt more comfortably during an otherwise traumatic event. Now back home, her family credits the early intervention and empathy shown by the rescue teams for preserving Raisa’s well-being.
